I know it's really sad, but I've started picking out things I'd like for Christmas. I feel greedy, greedy, greedy. I suppose the problem stems from the fact that JR's birthday is just around the corner, so I had to buy him presents. I keep thinking of things I would like, but don't have the funds for, like replacements for three pillowcases we lost during the move. Sure, I have other pillowcases, but I don't like seeing all of those mismatched cases (and one bald pillow) when I make the bed in the morning. Don't worry, we don't sleep on baldy; he's just there to even out my side when the bed is made. I suppose you could say that I'm a little compulsive in some matters, such as pillowcases.

Yesterday, I thought I was being very industrious by putting dinner in the crockpot before we left for work in the morning. I didn't have all of the necessary ingredients for any specific recipe, so I thought I would just wing it. Unfortunately, the kitchen gods were unpleased with my offering because I returned home to find that all of the liquid had cooked off (and proceeded to burn) the chicken. This did not make me happy, but I'm certain that the pizza we had for dinner was much tastier than my chicken was ever destined to be.

I was looking at reviews of a cookbook online and got the idea to try a more organized approach to my shopping and eating. Today, I planned four weeks worth of meals (including a night to eat out). Then, I created a shopping list for everything I need for each week. I just need to add in my staple items and I should be set to grocery shop each week for the next month. Once the four weeks are over, I can start back at the list for the first week. I will let you know if this turns out to be a saving grace or ends up driving me crazy. Either way, it's got to be better than burnt crock pot chicken.

But then you can't have fun making new creations...like nachos....

I do a list weekly. Your idea of repeating the list monthly intrigues me. My problem is cooking. When I get home from the gym after work, the last thing I want to do is cook. Crockpots are nice, but can get old. Someone recommended cooking all of your meals for the week on Sunday night. I might try that - not sure yet. All I know is that when your local Chipotle cuts you off, you've eaten there too much.

We shop every two weeks on Sundays. We make a run on the in between weeks to get things that we missed or run out of like milk or oreos or brownies. We've been doing it this way since I can remember, and it's worked well for us.

You people that have Chipotle within 50 miles of you disgust me. We'd never have to shop if we had one of them round these parts.
