AND THE GOOD NEWS IS

JR and I are going to be Godparents to our neice, V! We are in the process of making arrangements to attend her baptism in KY on Labor Day Weekend. I was explaining to JK that our "spiritual family tree" is now a little convoluted, since JR is also my Godfather (he sponsored me during my conversion). JK thinks that it's a pretty fitting situation for KY ;)

RANDOMLY

Before I ordered the owl shoes (featured below) I was reading some reviews on Zappos and someone had commented about who owls are a really popular fashion design at the moment. I think this must be true, since I saw this Paul & Joe shirt the last time I was in Target and they only had and XL left. Anyway, it reminded me of the last time my friend JS and her husband JS visited (ok, this is a case where my use of initials is probably going to cause nothing but confusion). Anyway, the three of us were shopping at Urban Outfitters and husband-JS informs us that guns are the new skulls. I thought this was great! While I don't have any attachment to etiher skull or gun designs, how many husbands hold this level of fashion knowledge? This is just one of the reasons that husband-JS is a great guy.

My other skull related story is that during one of JK's visits to Chicago, he and I were shopping at Target (in fact this may have been during the infamous visit wherein he took me to Target four times). We were standing in line behind a woman and her college age daughter. Daughter was pitching a tantrum because Mother would not pay for her acid wash skinny jeans and coordinating skull print top. Obviously, Daughter did not comprehend that no amount of whining/screaming would coerce Mother into paying for an outfit that she obviously found to be in bad taste. She could just as well have been asking for drug money, for all the good it was going to do.

YESTERDAY

Yesterday being Friday, I was feeling a little feisty and decided to indulge in a mid-morning soda. Big Mistake. I spent the next hour and a half watching the clock slowly tick away the minutes to lunch as the soda hit my empty stomach to create a vortex of acid. The pain made me kind of reflective and I started wondering about why people in general, and I in particular, drink soda. The fact is, it's pretty bad for you whether you drink the regular (loaded with sugar and calories) or unleaded (filled with weird chemicals that don't even make it taste that good). Plus, all of the carbonation just leads to belching, which is neither attractive nor comfortable. And yet, despite the fact that caffeine supposedly exacerbates dehydration, nothing hits the spot like a soda (or beer for you beer drinkers) on a warm day. I have gone without soda for long periods of time, but I always seem to come back to it. I don't have good answer for this delimma, so for the time being, I'm going to file it in the "I know it's bad for me, but..." category, along with Chipotle, pizza and Cold Stone.
