Colder than a...

Earlier today it was one degree here in Chicago. Has it been colder? Sure, it was colder than that when JR and I set out at 7 am for our morning commute. I discovered yesterday that the concrete platform of the el can make my feet so cold that I will cry. I've made a pact with myself that I will wear my sherpa boots until the temperature agrees to be reasonable. But what I love so much about one degree is that it's the only temperature at which you can use degree in the singular.

JR and I are trying to eat healthier by following the principals in the YOU: On a Diet book. Since Saturday, we've dropped a combined 6-7 pounds, which is good progress. However, it's been tough for a few reasons:
  1. We haven't had time to read the book completely. JR's schedule this semester has him staying late three days a week, so when he is home, we are rushing to fit in bar exam plans, moving plans along with normal life.
  2. Our first trip to the grocery store was pretty expensive. I'm not sure if the cost will go down as we refine the shopping list to just the things we're using, but it was a bit of a shock to see the total on the cash register.
  3. I miss my cheetos...and my browinies...and pizza...but I'm resolved to switch to a diet of whole grains, fruit, vegetables and lean meat. But that doesn't stop my tummy from rumbling sometimes.

Stay strong. I've also decided that it is time to overhaul the diet. I've done it before and it wasn't fun, so I feel your pain. Just think about how much better you will look and feel once you are in that new routine. Just try not to kill or disfigure people on your way there....

Good luck with the diet, Angela. I have attempted to cut back, but it's not happening until after the baby arrives. I am weak to begin with, and Beth can't diet with me, so I will eat wings and chili cheese fries until April.
