I just found out that the AFI is updating the 100 best list to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the list. The results are to be released in June.
It's kind of funny since JK and I were just discussing that during his visit. We both agree that at least one the the Lord of the Rings movies should be on the list. It will be interesting to see if they take our advice!
Anyway, I plan to keep working from the current list until the new one is released. I'm working my way down in roughly sequential order, and I don't think anything near the top will get bumped off. I can't wait to see what changes they make!

I'm so excited you're tackling the list. I have been working the low-tech, paper folder that I got at Blockbuster for years now (I'm up to 45!).
I recommend a big Hitchock weekend ie. Rear Window, North by Northwest, Vertigo, followed by a Gene Kelly revival ie. American in Paris, Singing in the Rain.
There are some I don't think I'll ever see (I just can't face The Deer Hunter) and my favorite is Sunset Boulevard.
Enjoy the quest!
I have to agree with Jean - a Hitchcock marathon would be a good idea. Though that might be due to the fact that once I start watching his stuff, I can't stop.
It's funny - I was thinking about this list tonight before seeing your post. I stick by the Lord of the Rings needing to be represented. I also believe Clerks, Sixth Sense, and Toy Story should be represented since they were great movies that also helped define genres.
Personally, I'd also like to see Pirates of the Caribbean, Saving Private Ryan, and the South Park movie make it on the list, but those are more wishful thinking than anything. I'd also like to see Casablanca move into the top spot because, well, I didn't care for Citizen Kane too much. Some recent critical favorites might sneak on, like Crash, Little Miss Sunshine, or Million Dollar Baby. I haven't seen any of those, so I can't really comment. Should be interesting, though!
