I'm in the midst of a mini-obsession. This one is not as all-consuming as some of my previous obessions (like the time I flew to Texas to hear Russell Crow's band), but it seems to be establishing a presence nevertheless.
I should have seen the signs. Clearly, my story about tracking down the vampire book shows all of the signs of an fixation waiting to happen. I guess I thought that once I read the book, my interest would be satiated.
And maybe that would have been the case, if I wasn't also obsessed with the internet. Specifically, for doing reserach on the internet. In fact, that's one of the things I was famous for in college. "Let me look that up on the internet!"
So, when I found the author's webpage and saw that there are tons of fans that are rabidly obsessed with this book and the sequel, a little part of me wanted to be able to join in that fun. An then I saw that they are having an event in May, called the Eclipse Prom, where the author will read the first chapter from the third installment of the series.
I can't go. Of course I can't go. Here are some reasons why not:
1. Timing: This will be the first weekend in May, putting it too close to Justin's graduation and our move.
2. Money: I definitely don't have the descretionary funds for this type of adventure.
3. Age: Although there are definitely some older fans of the series, I imagine that most of the attendees will be a bit younger.
4. JR: There's no way I could talk him into going and what fun is prom if you don't have someone to dance with?
5. Reality: It's quite possible my interest will have wained by the time the date rolls around.
Still, a little tiny part of me wonders what I'll be missing out on...
