Less wiki, more pedia
I’ve noticed a upsetting trend on wikipedia. It seems that in light of the backlash concerning the accuracy of information on the site, they are making increasing efforts to remove all information that cannot be verified by another source. Sure, this may sound good in theory. The problem is that what made wikipedia unique was that it was a great source for the type of information that can’t be verified. It was the go-to source for slang definitions, rumors and everything else that forms the collective conscious of our society. Of course it’s true that the pitfall was that you couldn’t trust the accuracy of the information presented; it could never be used as a reference for any sort of academic endeavor. But, there are plenty of on line and hard copy encyclopedias available. Wikipedia gave us something different before it sacrificed itself in order to morph into something that don’t really need.
