The weekend flew by quickly, full of a few chores and lots of fun times.
FRIDAY
On my way home on Friday I boarded the train, found a seat and started reading. I was quite immersed in Devil in the Junior League, when JR called to ask what stop I was at. Having lost track, I told him that I thought I was getting close to Armitage, but wasn't sure. Looking around, I suddenly realized that I was on a green line, heading west of the city, instead of the brown line, heading north. It was an easy fix of getting off at the next stop, switching sides and riding back into the city, but it cost me and hour of my Friday evening.
We headed to Lincoln Square and had burgers at the Daily Bar & Grill. I haven't spent a lot of time in Lincoln Square, but the area has a nice ambiance. I spotted a few other places I'd like to go back and try. We also saw the movie The Illusionist. I'm going to put my thoughts on the watching page, since it will possibly contain spoilers.
When we got home, JR had received a belated birthday gift, along with the three pairs of mocs that I ordered for him. Since the mocs get worn every day, they tend to wear out pretty quickly. We also got our copy of the new Veruca Salt album, which we are enjoying so far.
SATURDAY
We tend to do chores in the R household on Saturdays. This was our dusting, sweeping & vaccuuming week. I usually hate to dust, but I bought a feather duster at Target, and now I love to dust. I would almost even say that it's fun!
The gals from my Chick Flick movie club came over to watch Say Anything. It was a great evening of talking and munching and wine drinking. I'm really glad that I joined this group; the gals that I've met have all been interesting and we've had some fun times so far.
SUNDAY
Sunday brought the monthly meeting of the Movie/Book club. Our September selection was The Black Dahlia. I reviewed the book in the reading section, but you can read my thoughts on the movie in the watching section. After the movie, we had a nice early dinner at the Grand Lux Cafe, which is owned by the same people that run the Cheesecake Factory, so you can be assured that the food was wonderful.
There were six of us in attendance (a seventh stayed for the movie only) so we had a fairly lively conversation. Even though there are men in the club, I have yet to be in attendance when any are there. Regardless, the group is much more varied in age and background than my Chick Flick club, so it provides a nice contrast.
I finished reading The Devil in the Junior League (review available in the reading section) and started The Prestige, which has replaced Killshot as the October selection for the Movie/Book club. I'm quite engrossed in the book and I'd venture to say that it's one of the best that I've read in the past year. I'll let you know if it lives up to my current expectations.
