When I'm at work and I crave a bottle of soda, I have to convenient options located within my building. The first is the 7-Eleven. Now that the new guy has gotten a bit more regular about bathing, it's great. The staff keeps it clean and well stocked.
The problem is that they don't carry Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi, which is my poison of choice. So, that forces me to go to the Metromart, which is a smaller convenient store. I've been stopping in the last week or so, since I've decided that although I can wean myself of soda, I really need the caffeine if I'm going to stay alert all day.
The point of this post is that the past two days the clerk has been really nosy. Yesterday he asked if I wanted a bag. When I said no, he proceeded to question me about why not. Then he accused me of eating nothing but cookies and soda for lunch. I assured him that I had a sandwich at my desk.
Today, I got the third degree about why I was only buying a soda (hint: restock the Soft Batch cookies). He asked if I was "trying to be a dietitian or something.") If his goal is to up-sell, he's doing a lousy job. If his goal is to engage me in conversation, I suppose he's met his objective, although my participating has been unenthusiastic at best.
Fortunately for me, there were Girl Scout cookies for sale in the lobby. I'm trying to pretend that I don't know that they're sitting behind me, begging to be eaten!
UPDATE: Today (Wednesday) when I saw Mr. Nosy at the cash register at the Metromart, I turned away and made a beeline for 7 Eleven. I bought a Cherry Coke Zero, even though it cost $.25 more there.
