As as potential job candidate, it doesn't make sense to me why a company advertising a job would choose not to disclose its company name and the salary it is prepared to offer. If you have a logical argument regarding why this information should be secret, please comment below. Offhand, I can only think of some very obscure circumstances that would require this information to be confidential. All in all, I think that it would eliminate a lot of hassle if the employer was upfront about it in the beginning. No need to waste either of our time if you expect me to perform rocket science for $5 an hour.
Otherwise the job search has chugging along so far. My ample free time at the current job gives me plenty of opportunity to search various sites. While this would normally be an ethical issue, I've already turned in my resignation and my reasons for leaving have nothing to do with lack of job satisfaction, so it boils down to doing this or reading the gossip pages all day.
I've run across some pretty amusing ads so far. I emailed this one to JR and JK, but decided that I wanted to share with the group:
I'm seeking a beautiful, classy, and intelligent lady who is a jack of all trades type person. You must have great communication skils, look great and always be presentable, and have a positive attitude. I am always on the run and need a right hand person I can entrust with a lot of responsibility to do a variety of tasks. I prefer a lady who is beautiful and fit. Excellent punctuality and manners. This could be a full or part time position depending on the persons ability, availability and interest. To be considered, please send an email with a picture of yourself and a brief description of your interest and capabilities. This is a real and serious job so please be the same.
Location: COLUMBUS

Here's another one I liked (I deleted his name to protect the "innocent"):
I am B---- W-------, I am the owner of B---- W------- FABRIC COMPANY and we are looking for good nice and God fearing Rep that are willing to work with us without stress and this would not affect the Present Job that you are doing, you do not need to be qualified, we need your trust, if you are interested Contact us at (b----w-------2228888 at yahoo dot com)
Salary/Wage: $500

I really can't decide which part I like the best, the fact that the candidate should be "God fearing" or the fact that "you do not need to be qualified." At least there are a few gems like these to make the search amusing.

You might want to keep your company name secret if the job you are posting is not known to your employees. For example, if someone is in that job that you plan on firing and you are trying to find a candidate so the job isn't vacant long, you don't want them finding out through a job posting. Or if you are making a new area that might replace an old area, same deal. And so on. I'm not saying it's right, but it's a reason. Also, if you want your candidate pool to be focused on the position and not the company (especially if you were for a big, reputable, desireable company), you might post blind.
As far as salary, the only thing I can think of is for negotiations. If you can hire someone for $30,000, why post it at $35,000? Your bargaining position is stronger if you try to get the other person to tip their hand first. So if you don't post the salary and ask what they are looking for during the interview process, that puts you in a power position when it comes time to talk dollars. At least that's my take.
Is a right hand lady required? If a left handed lady applied could she still do the job...?
