I received two unexpected gifts today. One was from the other admin in my area. I felt a little bad, because I didn't purchase a gift for her. I decided I could either just thank her, or try to stall and run out at lunch and purchase something. In the end, I chose the former. The gift turned out to be a manicure set, which although it is nice, seems like one of those impersonal gifts that you buy when you think "I've got to spend $10 on this person and I have no idea what to get." That probably sounds pretty ungrateful. Maybe I'm just trying to justify why I shouldn't feel guilty?
The other gift was a little more pleasant. It was from one of the senior managers in my department, so I don't feel bad about accepting it without something to reciprocate with. It's my philosophy that it's one of the benefits of being and admin and having to do all of the grunt work. This particular co-worker has always taken an interest in the books that I'm reading, so she bought me two books. Both are ones that I've heard a lot about, but haven't read.
I'm not sure that I'll get a chance to post again before Christmas, so let me wish everyone a happy holiday!
