Flat Out Tired!

We are back in the Windy City, after a wonderful weekend visiting our families. It seems that we've gotten to the age where most things seem to focus on babies and we had three that we love to keep us entertained.

Thursday, AR and JR picked me up from work and we drove to their parents' home near Dayton. Friday, JR spent the day cleaning out the closet in his childhood room. You would be amazed at the things he had saved. Among other treasures, he found boutineers from every dance he attended stored in...wait for it...the original plastic packaging!

Later that day, his brother KR, drove up from Kentucky with his wife and kids. We spent the rest of that day holding, talking to or staring at our 5 mo. old neice, V. She's quite the cute little baby, with big droopy cheeks and chubby little thighs. We also had a great dinner of stuffed cabbage rolls and munched on cookies and treats made by my MIL.

Saturday morning, we headed to Columbus where we had a pot luck party at my mom's house. Friends from all over the state drove in for the festivies. This was a double-baby party, featuring KW's 5 mo. old son, CW and MK and BK's 2 yr. old daughter, EK. CW is absolutely adorable and such a mellow little dude. He permitted me to hold him for quite awhile without fussing at all. Even JR commented that he would support my plans to baby-nap him from KW ;)

Unlike CW, EK is a little more reserved with her affections. However, mom started to warm her up by giving her a "baby turtle" that played songs and made noises. After a few rounds of "Where's EK?", she was in fine form and kept mom, BK and I fed by bringing us "baby grapes" from a bowl in the middle of the room.

Although the babies were the stars of the party, I had a great time catching up with all of the friends that came in for the party. I even got to meet, T, who has been dating my college friend, JI for quite awhile. I also got to touch the baby bump of AS, who's due at the beginning of March.

On Sunday, LP and JP came over for breakfast and gift exchaning. We played a couple of rounds of the game Whoonu, which is by the creators of Cranium. It's a very easy and cute game that we enjoyed. Later in the day, we headed over to Dad's, where we had yet another delicious dinner. I spent most of the evening playing "Owie" with my nephew, H. In case you are wondering, Owie is played by tottering back and forth as though you are loosing your balance and then falling to the ground. If you've done a particularly good job, H will reward you by giving you the cutest smile and saying "Hi". If you are distracted mid-game, H will refocus you by pointing at you and saying owie until you are reminded that you are there for his amusement.

Monday, we got up quite early and started driving back to Chicago. I slept most of the way, so the time went pretty quickly for me. After we got home and unpacked the car, I decided to run some errands. After going to Target, the Dollar Tree, Bath & Body Works and the grocery store, I headed home. I was approximately 30 seconds away from parking and car and being done with my day when I slammed into the curb and busted the tire. All in all, I am completely grateful that this happened right outside of our apartment, since I was able to finish parking and go inside, but it was a sad ending to an otherwise great weekend. Fortunately, the good people of USAA sent someone over to put the spare on. Yes, JR could have done it, but it would have taken 4x as long as it took the guy in the tow truck with the special tools. Besides, we pay for the service, so why not use it?

Confidential to friends and family we saw this weekend: Thanks again for all of the wonderful food, presents, visiting, hugs and laughs. We appreciate you celebrating a week early so that we could join in and we are especially grateful to all of those who travelled from all over to see us!
