CAN YOU HEAR MY EYES ROLLING?

I love my movie/book club. If you've read my previous posts, you've certainly heard me talking about it before. The premise is pretty simple - we read a book, see the movie based on the book, go out to eat and discuss. The December selection was to be The Good German. I ordered my book from the Amazon marketplace and wouldn't you know it? On the same day that I started reading it, our group leader found out that the movie release was postponed. So, instead we are reading/watching Casino Royale (the new James Bond movie).

I've never been really drawn to James Bond, so my first instinct was to skip. But, I always have a good time at the meetings and there's always a different mix of people. Plus, I truly believe that you have to try new things (sometimes especially things that are against your instinct) so that you can continue to grow as a person. It's important to live outside of one's comfort zone sometimes.

So, I requested the book from paperbackswap.com and I actually started looking forward to the movie a little bit. It seemed like this movie might not be quite as cheesy as some of the previous ones have looked to me. Then, I started reading the book. While I know I need to give it leeway due to the fact that it was first published in 1960 and it is after all a James Bond book, I'm having some trouble swallowing all of the sexism. I suppose Bond wouldn't be Bond if he wasn't a bit of a womanizing pig, but still, I'm hoping that the movie is a little more with the times.
