Today is Monday the 13th. Why isn't Monday the 13th considered as evil as Friday the 13th? It should be worse! It is a Monday after all.
The weekend was good. It included a trip to Target (which I need to cut back on before we're bankrupt) and an outing with my movie/book club. Unfortunately, I was the only attendee other than the organizer. I guess this month's selection, A Good Year, was not appealing to anyone. It didn't really appeal to me either, but I had fun talking about how I didn't like the book and didn't like the movie, even though it was almost nothing like the book. The organizer thought it might be the worse selection to date, but then I reminded her about The Sentinel. That one set the bar for awfulness pretty high. Lest you think I'm a Negative Nellie, I can tell you that my favorite so far has been last month's selection, The Prestige, in which the movie (one of my favorites of the year) was even better than the book.
Today I had lunch with JR and his co-worker, P. JR wanted me to describe to P a gal in one of my clubs that it very strange and who no one really likes (don't feel sorry for her, she's rude as well as strange). Anyway, I'm part way through my description, when P interrupts me to ask if she's cute. Turns out that P has a thing for crazy chicks!
I guess it just goes to show that people have a variety of tastes. For instance, when it comes to giving gifts, there are two options which I outlined in a recent email to my SIL, JP, when I asked her which she'd prefer to receive:
Option Cat: Something a little wacky and fun. You probably wouldn't buy it for yourself, but you might like it. Then again, you might hate it and have to exchange or re-gift it.
Option Dog: Something more conservative and more in line with your known tastes. This would possibly be selected from your amazon wishlist or related to something you have already expressed an interest in.
Neither of these options have anything to do with cats nor dogs. You can replace them with "Option A" and "Option B" if that's more comfortable for you. I guess that it just ties into something that I've been feeling about gift giving lately. I love a CAT. I also love a DOG, but only when it's a bit of surprise. However, when gift giving is boiled down to I'll give you this cd that you've told me you want and you get me some other cd that I've told you I want...it just feels a little hollow.
I suppose that this might make me seem unappreciative, but it really shouldn't. My point is that I'd rather have an hour of your time than anything you can buy me in a store. Is this growing up? It certainly feels like it...
